Stickiness is residue: too much cleaner, a product not made for finished wood, or a wax or oil soap on a polyurethane floor. Each mopping leaves a film that attracts dirt. Switch to a pH-neutral cleaner made for finished hardwood, use a barely damp microfiber mop, and if the film is heavy, clean once with plain water and a clean pad. Never wet-mop or steam-mop a wood floor.

Usually yes: running the boards in one continuous direction through connected rooms makes the space feel larger and avoids awkward transitions. The common rule is to run boards parallel to the longest wall or the main line of sight from the entry, and perpendicular to the floor joists for strength. Separate rooms behind a door can change direction if it suits the room better.
